More than two hundred students at the University College Groningen (UCG) will be able to move into residential building Libertas at the Healthy Ageing Campus next year. The building was finished this week.
After nearly six years of planning and nineteen months of construction, the new building for UCG students is finally finished. Students who currently live in Frascati, an old office building next to the central train station, will be the first ones to move in after New Year's.
Libertas is sixty metres high and has eighteen floors. It's at the front of the Healthy Ageing Campus, on the corner of the Vrydemalaan and the Wouter van Doeverenplein. Students will have their own bathroom and share a kitchen with the rest of their cluster. There are also shared laundry facilities, a roof terrace, and a study room.
The building is owned by housing corporation Nijestee but managed by SSH Student Housing. Some of the rooms will be furnished. This way, the building can both house UCG students who are here for three years, and students who only come to Groningen temporarily.
