Groningen researchers Ana Guerberof Arena and Tina Kretschmer have each been awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant worth 2 million euros.
Linguistics expert Ana Guerberof Arenas has been awarded the grant for her research on translation. Associate professor of developmental psychology wants to find out what changes in people once they have children.
Arenas wants to know more about the role that people's creativity plays in the translation process. Many translations today are done by computers. She wants to study how people respond to different types of translated content and find out the possibilities and limitations of translation technology.
Turning point
Kretschmer focuses on how people change the moment they become parents. There hasn't been a lot of interest in this in academia, but it's a turning point in social development.
Kretschmer will be using data from the TRAILS database, which contains the information of more than 1,500 young people who have been followed since they were eleven years old. Today, these people are in their thirties and some of them have children. That means their data is perfect to study the effect of having children on social behaviour.
